As this name as far as the info goes, stems from the region Sorbenland, or rather Wendenland. (This is a Slavic speaking area in the South East of Germany. Nyẞzen should be explained as 'Son of Joseph'. Nyẞzen became Germanized, for hence the Slavican 'z' became an 's '. So it ended up with three times an 's'. So this triple-s became a double-s. In Netherlands, as executing de-germanisation, the name became administrered as Nijssen (with the Dutch so called 'lange ij'(long why) did this result in Nijssen. However there's a more direct derived phenomena of Joseph's son: Josefszoon, is a Dutch primerely Caribbean surname.
