The first detailed census from 1801 show that the name was limited to the original Trangsrud farm. Censuses from 1865 and beyond, show that the Trangsrud name had spread to other areas in the county and to nearby counties. Towards the end of the 1800s the first Trangsrud emigrants left for USA and Canada. Today there are about 90 individuals with the Trangsrud surname in Norway, and a probably a smaller number living in North America. About half of the Trangsruds in Norway still live in Hedmark county, and the majority of the rest live in the capital counties of Oslo and Akershus
