Graham Dungworth says: All Dungworths came from the village of Dungworth at the top of the Loxley valley in the vicinity of the Bradfield parish, upper and lower Bradfield(originally Kerickton). Hunter at the turn of the 20th century thought that the name was a corruption of Dinnington. There is a Mot and Bailey. He also mentioned that the folk of that name were turned out of the village in the 17th century; a consequence of their refusal to renounce catholicism. Many of them decamped down the valley in Loxley or Sheffield. I still have family in Loxley. Above Dungworth is Tom Hill in the vicinity of Gibraltar Rock and Ug (ugly) Hill by On moor. Dunn,son of Gwertha were Celtic gods of the underworld, the original name neterkerrick of lower Bradfield. The earth god Geb of Egyptian extraction or God of the Earth Geb al Terre is in the vicinity of On moor, the ancient name of the city og heliopolis.
